Spoonflower Order Arrived!

This year I've made a resolution to go easy on fabric purchases, which I have been fairly good about sticking to for the main part.  Except...  (lol) for this rather large order I made with Spoonflower recently.  Last year I purchased the Heather Ross Prints book, which you can find here, which includes a disk that you can use to upload her prints and use for your own digital printing!  Using Spoonflower, I recolored the prints to make my own vibrant palette.  I'm starting to understand more about myself lately in that I realize I like color saturation!  All those years as a child in art class watching other kids use colored pencils and gently coloring in use to drive me crazy.  I always went for the markers and made sure everything was colored in in full color!  Oddly enough though, I always go for neutral colors when wearing clothes.

So anyway, I was a bit nervous about how this Spoonflower order would turn out.  I played around changing colors around for quite some time and then debated about whether to order swatches or go the whole hog and just order yards.  I wasn't sure how they would look in person and whether or not they would be drastically different to my computer monitor.  Well, the answer is, they are different than what was on my monitor, but after getting these back, there are only one or two things that I might change if I were to order this bundle again.  I think I was very very lucky as I can imagine that it would be easy to mess up the color choices and then be stuck with a yard of something quite ugly.

I had these printed out on the cotton poplin and ordered a yard of the color chart printed on poplin so that if I decide to do this again I will have a true color reference to work with.  I also ordered Laurie Wisbrun's new book, "Mastering the Art of Fabric Printing and Design," which after glancing through I am very pleased with.

I should mention also for those of you in Australia, the shipping of these items was fairly fast.  It looks as if Spoonflower is using a return address in Queensland.  I'm not sure if they are doing the printing there or bulk shipping with a fast courier, but it only took me a week for these to arrive after I got my shipping notification!

All in all I am very pleased and can't wait to make something with these fabrics!

Especially love the teal and purple. I really didn't need one more way to spend money on fabric, but I've added the HR book to my wish list. Oh, also love he retro clock block you just finished. Fabric choice so great and wonderful piecing.

these are just so fabulous Jeannette! You've inspired me to finally get into gear and use the Heather Ross book, which I've so far only looked through. I've had my eye on that Laurie Wisbrun book too. A yard of the colour chart is such a good idea - I've just got a FQ.

We've had some Spoonflower orders arrive within a week - ordered on a Sunday, arrived on a Friday is our record - with a return address of Yatala, which is between the Gold Coast and Brisbane. No idea if they print there either - but they must, with orders arriving that quickly.

Can't wait to see what you have planned for this pile of gorgeousness. Catherine x

I'll be interested in seeing how they look after going through the wash. I did not like how her purple gnomes washed...

you are definitely tempting me to buy the Heather Ross book, I love the colours you chose... I'm in Canada and have had my orders come from Sweden, I asked them about it and it is just their global postal system, like a very cheap fedex

Your fabrics look fantastic! What a great feature to come with a book! I'm with you, colour saturation all the way. Definitely preferred textas to pencils when I was a kid.
