After I made bee blocks for Cherry, I got a bit excited about the block and decided to make some Kumiko Fujita butterfly blocks for myself. I don't know why, but I really enjoy this sort of paper piecing as it doesn't require much brain space, goes fast and each block come out perfectly! I sort of got into a rhythm with making them last weekend until I ran out of black fabric. I'm back into again as more black fabric arrived in my mailbox while I was away on Friday, so I'm back to sewing these when I get a moment throughout the day. I'm not sure how big I will make this quilt yet. We will have to see...
If anyone is interested we have started a Flickr group for these blocks
here. Feel free to join and start making your own blocks!
Speaking of Lepidoptera, check out this photo I took the other day....
Isn't that cool looking? I'm supposing this is the defense mechanism that the moth uses to keep predators away. It looks like a cat's face to me--if I were a bird I might stay away!
Here is the same Emperor Gum Moth a little further away.
Oh I adore those blocks! So much color and movement - I can see how they'd become addictive!
