The Plan

Yesterday I washed all of my 30's fat quarters and decided to try out a design I have been looking at for a while. Here is the first block that I made last night to try it out. Wow, I guess I have not realized how much work goes into an hour glass block. Well, at least done correctly, which I never used to do... I now realize how important it is to TRIM blocks as you go, otherwise they get too off.

So, my question is what color do I use for the sashing and borders? I know that I want to use a Kona cotton because I think that would make it look like a 30's quilt, but which color? I am thinking about Robin Egg, Grapemist, Peach, Thistle and maybe Buttercup or Pistachio. If anyone has any ideas what would look authentic or just a good color to use, feel free to comment...

Oh how I like this, I might have to try it if you don't mind.

The colors you named all sound so yummy! I would go with what would look great in your home (if you are keeping it) but before I read your colors, in my mind I had it pictured with a green. Then I read Pistachio and thought yes! But I also like Buttercup and Peach and, well, all the rest! I think they would all look authentic, especially with the '30's fabrics you are using. I don't think you can go wrong - just choose your favorite :)

I often try on several colors after I get the blocks made. Like trying on clothes at the shop, look good on the hanger but not always when you you put them on. I'm sure dit will come to you, Yes those look like time consuming blocks. But it is always the journey, that is the most fun.
and have a Happy New Year...
