Dr. Seuss Quilt Wonky Quilt Top Finished
Do you remember way back when I posted about this quilt here? I came up with this design for these fabrics. Dr. Seuss + Wonky = Perfect. Right? Well, that part of it I think I got right, but when it came to what to sash around the blocks I got it totally wrong. I chose the black and white striped fabric in the line to sash around each block. My thinking was that I have often seen bright colorful quilts toned down by the simple addition of black and white. But for this quilt it just made it crazy. I didn't even bother to take a picture to show you all as it was just too yucky. I completely miscalculated my fabric selection. In the meantime I had many people ask about this quilt. Seems that it inspired a few people to make wonky Dr. Seuss quilts, but I had yet to finish mine! All that unpicking! I finally pulled it out again this week and did the boring unpicking job and resashed it in something sensible this time--kona snow. I added the black and white (where it belongs) and the Cat and the Hat blue border. Voila! I'm happy now and I will be able to quilt it soon (my machine is on it's way!) and the boys will get lots of use of it. We read Dr. Seuss quite regularly around here, Alexander already starts reading along telling me what comes next, so hopefully he will have many happy memories in association with this quilt. Of course, he'd like me to make a tractor quilt most of all... I'll work on doing something about that soon.

Looks fantastic....I did these wonky blocks with Betty Boop fabric. Its been sitting in the cupboard without a border...I really must drag it out and figure out what I should add for the border...agghh...hugs Khris
I absolutely love it! Your white sashing is the perfect choice!
So special! And so worth the extra effort. Very inspiring.
oh I love that! saw it in spotlight when they had 40% off a few weeks ago but didn't know what I'd do with it. doh!
What a difference the sashing makes- it looks fabulous - and combining it with the Dr Seuss fabric will surely make it a treasure in your household.
I love how this came out. There is a CUTE tractor pattern out by Amy Bradly. I'll see if I can find you a link to show you the photo of the quilt.
So how will you quilt it?? I have two to do & they are for adult men! Yikes. Oh I see that you are acquainted with Khris- she stayed with us last trip to the US, I never get down to see her when I am in Aus. always too busy with family!
I just got the cat in the Hat panel and am trying to work out what to do with it. Your quilt looks great. How did you do the wonky blocks?
Totally agree with Kemmo. Looks fantastic. . How do I do it? Got the material and you have supplied the inspiration.
I'm gearing up to make my first quilt with my grandma this summer, and I may copy your idea! I'm a teacher, and I want to make a kids quilt to put away when I have children of my own. This is TOO cute!
I know you posted this many ago, but I'm wondering how big you wonky blocks are for this quilt?
