No Luck with the Bleeding Quilt!

I thought I would show you what happened with the quilt I made that ending up bleeding on me when I washed it. I'm so frustrated by this as this quilt was intended to be a gift for a friend. I used synthrapol to try and get the bleeding out and that didn't work. Then I purchased some Dylon and that didn't work either. If you click on the picture you will see in greater detail that some of the fabrics bled. All the fabrics that bled were Japanese, so I don't know what that means, but I assume they have a different manufacturing process. Anyway, chalk this one up to a learning experience and move on. I'll use this one when we go to the beach or something, I guess.

I just wanted to add another picture to this post to show you a close-up of the quilt. A couple of you mentioned that you can't tell that it bled. Here in the first photo you can see the pigs, robots and cars all bled. I'm not sure if they were all by one manufacturer or not. Some were Kokka, but not sure if all were. But, it's the fault of the red backing--that will teach me not to use a Kona solid (or Moda Bella)!!!

I'm so sorry about your quilt....my thought would be now to overdye it...not sure what colour though!

I was thinking the same thing as Ann-Maree. Were all the Japanese fabrics from the same manufacturer?

Uh, sorry, I can't find any bleeding. The white triangles all still look white to me. Unless it looks very different in real life, no-one but you and the fabric manufacturer will ever know that it's supposed to look different. See it as a self-composed piece of music - everything that's in it is supposed to be there, of course ;)

Cheers,
Christine

I'm with Christine...I can see that the pigs, cars and robots are not on pink backgrounds, but if each triangle that bled is as uniformly "messed up" as the ones seen here, I'd still gift it. I think it's a gorgeous quilt, and would be very happy to receive it, pink triangles or not :)

I thought the pink was intentional. Red/Aqua/Pink is a beautiful combo,... like candy!

I always use the color catcher sheets in the washer and never have any problems with fabrics bleeding. Your quilt is beautiful!!!

If the bleeding is even it's no problem, it looks just as if the pigs, cars and robots have a pink background instead of white. Little Dumplin'

I wouldn't worry too much about the bleeding. I've made lots and lots of quilts and some bleed and some don't. But in the end after enough washing it all evens out.
