Steam Punk Ahead--Freezer Paper Template Tutorial

After visiting Amitie last week and purchasing Jen Kingwell's Steampunk pattern I've been very motivated to start making the quilt.  It seems as if I am not the only one that has been motivated to make this gorgeous quilt!  A few of us online have decided we need a support group to keep us motivated through this somewhat difficult pattern.  Amy and I have decided to start a no pressure/no time limit Flickr support group which you can find here.  We will be posting tips and tricks on how to make the quilt and providing encouragement to help us get through the making of this quilt.  It's a Quilt Along at your pace.  Please come and join us!

I also wanted to add in case you haven't worked with freezer paper previously that you can use the same paper templates over and over...  The same templates should last for the entire project.

I am by no means an expert, but I thought I would share with you this mini tutorial in pictures the method with which I am using to cut my fabrics out in case you might not have worked with freezer paper in the past.  This is just my method, I am sure there are plenty of other ways to go about it, but I thought I would share with you!

Great tutorial!
Most often (when I'm not using die cutter:) I use first method. A friend sewing clothes taught me this.

thanks so much Jeannette for taking the time to take pics and post this tutorial, I really appreciate it - I am going to bookmark it and come back to it when my pattern arrives and I get down to making my first block. Eep.

This is pretty out of my comfort zone - curves!! - but I so love what you and Amy have created so far, I can't wait to at least start. Surely I can make one block ...

And in other news - I bought Down Under Quilting - congratulations, your quilt looks fabulous.

Great tutorial, you make this seem like something I can do. I may have to give it a go!

I ordered the pattern last week and I can't wait to get started. I am really contemplating about which fabrics to use. I can't wait to get started. Seeing all of the blocks in the flickr group just makes me want to dive in!

I ordered this pattern ages ago, but when I got it, I was dismayed at the sparse instructions and uncertain how to go about it. I pulled out the pattern yesterday, and your tutorial is so much help! Thanks!

Why not use one of the methods to add the 1/4" seam allowance to make a master template set, and then just trace around the templates? Like we used to do before rotary cutters and acrylic rulers?
