Ok, I have to admit that now that my kids are mostly sleeping through the night, I am sewing a bit later and later at night these days. Sometimes after the whole bedtime routine it becomes a very necessary relaxation before I go to sleep. I like to sew and listen to my latest audio book until I feel so tired I am ready to fall into bed.
After finishing the Sew Retro blocks I thought I would leave paper piecing for a little while, but then ironically Joanna and Julianna's Forest Quilt Along just started and I had to do this one right away! It is something I have actually been wanting to do for a long time now. I wanted to make Australian animals all paper pieced and I actually have them all drawn on EQ7 ready to go, but haven't started yet. I also really wanted to make paper pieced animals from the environment I grew up in as well, so forest animals work just perfectly!
I'm really excited! I love this woodpecker and I hope all the blocks that come up in the quilt along are as awesome as this one. This will be a great chance for me to dive into a few more of the neutral fabrics in my stash--I have many that don't get enough use! The background prints on my block are Oakshotts so they have a shimmer to them in real life that I can't get in the photo. Now I can't wait until the next one comes out.
This is remarkable! It's so intricate! Beautiful!
