Swoon Quilt Finished and a New Pup

Today I finished the last of the hand sewing of the binding on my Swoon quilt--finished just in time for the next quilt along!  I really love the way it turned out, but I can tell you, I really struggle trying to take pictures of my bigger quilts.  So, I just went with hanging it on the clothes line and hoping the wind didn't whip it around too much.  Our house is still pretty much a building site and with all the wet weather we have had this summer, there hasn't been much work done on the house.

In other news, we got a new puppy today!  It looks like we are going to have are hands full for the next couple of months, but we had to get a puppy since we are down to only one working dog at the moment.  This little guy needs a name.  Any suggestions would be welcome:)

  1. I really like how you placed your colors on the quilt. What a good way to manage a different color on each block with the border.

You can roll your eyes, but the first thing that came to my mind for a name is Dingo Dog. I don't know what character in what book says dingo dog when someone does something dumb, but it is something a friend of mine always used to say when someone was goofy.

  2. Love the quilt and LOVE that puppy! What breed is he? He looks like a Rottie but the ears are a little pointy. Maybe he's just alert in the picture though. I have a Rottweiler and they are the best dogs ever and great herders. Believe me ... try taking a jog with one and see what happens :)

For a male I'd go with Carl. There is a whole series of children's books by Alexandra Day about a Rottweiler named Carl and they are wonderful.

  10. Hi, I found your blog after looking at your lovely Swoon quilt.

Your puppy reminds me so much of our black and tan kelpie, Rajah. Daughter and I got him from the Animal Protection Society here in Perth, he was an abandoned dog, possibly too active for a city owner? He was a lovely faithful companion for 13 years. So Rajah is my suggestion!!!!

  13. Hi Jeanette, Your Swoon quilt is beautiful!

How about 'Ringer' for your pup's name. I used to live on a farm where they called the working dog that.

  18. I love your quilt. Too wonderful!! How do you manage to get so many finished?? What next QAL? Do I need to know? Are you going to do the DS Quilts doll quilt? Sign ups are on the 15th. Are we still going to try to do something together like we talked about? LMK

As for the pup, he is adorable! I think you should use a name from your home state too, maybe Sparty!

  20. I did a rainbow, scrap quilt for my son about 15 years ago and it is still one of my favorite quilts; we use it all the time. This quilt reminds me of it. I too like the way you organized your colors and matching border color.

How about "Patches" for the puppy? As in patchwork, or maybe Patch Work since he is a working dog; Patches can be his nickname.

  21. I just love that Swoon pattern! Yours turned out very well - love the border. Puppy is very cute, too. Maybe not th most original, but he looks like a Pepper to me. Maybe some type, like maybe Malabar or Cayenne...

  23. I am working on this swoon quilt and was curious if anyone added a border to make it a bit bigger. Looks gorgeous! I will have to go all one color though as I don't have enough scraps. Beautiful!
