Well, can I start by saying that I waited and waited and waited for my local sewing shop to get the thread for this quilt ordered into their store. Then, I decided to order from an online store here in Australia. They sent me the wrong thread and then said they would reimburse me if I sent it back and they would cover the shipping costs. I did that and they reimbursed me for my shipping it back but not what I paid to have them ship it to me! They spent 4$ to ship it to me, I spent 1$ shipping it back. Can I just tell you that I am not at all satisfied with the way Australian businesses handle customer service??? So, I ordered the thread from Joann's in America and had it sent to my mom who then forwarded to me---all faster than I could get it here in Australia. No wonder most people over here do their fabric and sundry buying from America! I can tell you, it's not for lack of trying to give the locals the opportunity!
So, anyway, I finished quilting my Birds of a Feather quilt and I absolutely love it! It's going to be a wall hanging so the heavy quilting is perfect to add texture and to make it lay flat. Now I just have to figure out a way to hang it on the wall. Make a sleeve to use to hang it? Does anyone know of any good instructions to do this? I'm going to hang it over Alexander's crib. I love this quilt so much I want to make another one... We shall see...

I forgot how big you quilt is, but if it's small enough on the next one you can add triangular pieces of fabric in the corners and a tab in the middle as I did on my turtles wallhanging. ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks great!! A friend of mine (she does all my long arm quilting) buys clip rings for hanging window treatments. You can get them with the curtain rod so that they match. Anyway, the rings hand on the rod and the clips hold the quilt. It's quick and easy to then hang the quilt and remove it for washing/mending or to change quilts. She has several like that in her home, and changes the quilts with the seasons. I've not tried it yet, but plan to soon. She said she gets hers at Bed, Bath, and Beyond or Joann's. I tried to look Joann's website to find a link for you, but it's down right now due to high volume.

ReplyDeleteI would use the Command 3M picture hanging velcro. Easy, quilt is flant onthe wall, and comes down simply for washing.
Beautiful! If it's not too heavy, you could always hang it using big safety pins pinned through the back and batting and then hang the circle part of the safety pin on a small nail tapped into the wall.

ReplyDeleteLovely quilt - I loved it when I saw the pattern too. As for the LQSs, I have to agree with you. I usually buy my fabric online from the US. It's so much cheaper, and generally very fast to arrive. Recently I went to my LQS wanting some fabric I have been seeing everywhere in the US - they had a layer cake but no yardage. They said it would be on the website as soon as it came in last week. Not there yet and I have already received it from the US at less than half the price. What can you do?

ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt, the quilting and applique are beautiful. I agree with your comments on customer service in Australia. There are one or two online stores I have been happy with but for the most part I order from the US and get things quicker and sometimes cheaper.I had one well known store here take 6 weeks to deliver - they said they lost my order - and then charged my credit card twice for it, and were very rude when I mentioned it. They refunded it but begrudgingly! They've lost a customer!

I love this quilt. I had to laugh about your experience with Australian suppliers. The first time I purchased something from Harvey Normans and went back to return it because IT DIDN'T WORK- and they told me I would have to send it out for repair - I just about hit the roof! Australia has a whole different mindset on customer service. I do quite alot of my quilt supply shopping in the states with my sister mailing me what I need.
