Blogger's Quilt Festival

It's that time of year again!  For the Blogger's Quilt Festival  this time I thought I would post about a quilt that I made a couple of years ago now since I  finished another quilt similar to this one this week  This quilt is one that pushed two different boundaries for me.  It was my first time making an applique quilt and was also the first time I tried free motion quilting.  I used a combination of two of my favorite fabric lines (Flea Market Fancy and Katie Jump Rope by Denyse Schmidt).  I laugh now when I see how I quilted it to death, but it makes it nice and stiff to use as a wall hanging.  It now is being used in the kids playroom downstairs to dress up the wall.

  6. Wow! That quilting is FABULOUS! I can't believe that was your first time with fmq. My first attempt was nothing but a mass of thread clumps and shapes that looked mortifyingly like male body parts.

    Very bright and cheerful :)

  28. I just love those birds. Did you hand cut them or use a template? I have been wanting to make a bird quilt but can't find a good way to cut out 20 or so black birds in multiple sizes. :)
